Looking after Loved Ones with OCD (And Yourself) During the Holiday Season…and Beyond!
Christmas and the entire holiday season are not over yet!
OCD Action knows this can be a time of mixed emotions for many – both people with OCD and their families, friends and carers. We at OCD Action understand this can present unique challenges for all of you.
While our forums don’t have a dedicated section for the holiday season, you can turn to our website for help.
tips for the holiday season
Note: these apply both to you, as a carer, and to your loved one(s) with OCD.
- Make time for you: Be sure to find some time for yourself to do something you find relaxing or meaningful (even just for ten minutes a day) – this can help to ease stress.
- Connect with others: If the holidays feel quite lonely, making living with someone with OCD , or OCD itself, more difficult to manage, think about who you might reach out to.
- Avoid comparisons: When viewing social media, everyone else may seem to be having a great time, but comparison can cause additional pressure to get everything ‘right’. If you struggle with comparison, try to limit your social media usage.
- Be gentle with yourself: OCD doesn’t have a day off at Christmas, so it’s OK if you’re not feeling the festive spirit. Try to be gentle with yourself and focus on what you’ve achieved.
- Reach out for support: OCD Action’s services are open during the festive period, with slightly less availability than usual. As always, you can reach out if you need any support.
