If you try to “fight” your ocd, can this actually make you feel worse and hate yourself more? I want to feel better, not worse.  Can I really trust my ocd self? Sometimes I think that it just isn’t possible to get better. I keep blaming myself for being weak and can’t think of any good things about me. It’s actually easier to give up, simply so many people in my life have given up on me. But I think parts of me are wonderful and I want to tell myself I’m successful as a person, but my “ocd self” says that’s pretentious and vain and it makes me think it’s just easier to give up. Anyone else feel like this?

Fighting ocd tends to make it worse. Better to try to simply witness it without passing judgment. In a way, giving up is what you need to do. Like give up feeding it in any way. Ocd wants you to take it mega seriously. Don’t. I know this sounds counter intuitive, but it does work.

You can also find out about support groups on our website. These offer a safe place where you can talk openly about OCD and support other people too. Our information about UK-based groups can be found here:

If you don’t live in the UK, you can look for groups near you on the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) website. Look in the section “Find Help” and then under “Listing Types”, choose “Support Groups”: https://iocdf.org/

And please remember that you’re never alone – OCD Action is here to help and support you.

          Best wishes,
