Is it normal to be in therapy for a long time and see no benefits? Or does it depend on the type of therapy? I’m having psychoanalysis for OCD and getting little or no benefit from it. Ok, maybe some of it is me, because I feel uncomfortable talking about certain intrusive thought “things” with my therapist. It’s just that I feel the same way now, then before I was in therapy. So what’s the point of seeing a psychiatrist? I thought it would be helpful and I have suffered for so long, with no changes. Isn’t therapy meant to fix things, like depressive, anxious symptoms and panic so you can cope better ? But nothing has stopped the panic attacks I ‘m having. Maybe reading books about OCD may help? Or should I switch therapists?

You can also find out about support groups on our website. These offer a safe place where you can talk openly about OCD and support other people too. Our information about UK-based groups can be found here:

If you don’t live in the UK, you can look for groups near you on the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) website. Look in the section “Find Help” and then under “Listing Types”, choose “Support Groups”: https://iocdf.org/

And please remember that you’re never alone – OCD Action is always here to help and support you.

        Best wishes,
