OCD Action’s short guide to good quality CBT with ERP

This OCD Week of Action, #OCDWoA, we want to see the government work with the NHS, charities, and service users to develop new quality measures to start the process of ensuring excellent treatment and equality of access at all stages of care.

What does excellent treatment look like?

Any concerns about your therapy or wonder if it’s appropriate?

It’s important to know that if you have any concerns about the therapy you are having and whether it is appropriate, you can speak about this with your therapist. This might feel scary, but a good therapist won’t take it personally or get upset.

CBT doesn’t look the same for everyone. Something being done differently doesn’t always mean the therapist is wrong. But they should always be able and willing to explain to you why something is or is not being done as you expected. They should also be listening to you about what works, what doesn’t, and why.

      More questions?

You can also get in touch with OCD Action’s Helpline if you’d like to discuss your treatment with a trained volunteer. Call us on 0300 636 5478 or send us an email to support@ocdaction.org.uk

Help us to ensure everyone living with OCD can have fair access to good-quality treatment.
