My whole life, I have offered my son reassurances not knowing it was worsening the issue. Now that his OCD is getting worse and worse, my whole family is making a huge effort to help him get over it, i.e., reading everything we can, providing as much emotional support as we can without giving into his compulsions, etc. It’s helpful to know that sometimes, we just have to reassure him rather than fight through it with him. I’m just not always sure what exactly to say to challenge his mind (contamination OCD).
