Our grown up child has been struggling with OCD for the last 12 years. When the OCD is winning she will often wake us up at 012:00-03:00 for reassurance. She will do this if she’s at home, or if she’s away at university (on the phone). When she’s busy she doesn’t do it, but if she’s not working she will sleep in after such a session, which could be two hours. We, of course, have to get up and work. Unfortunately I’m past the age where I can do this without physical consequences to my own health.
Is giving reassurance like this just feeding the monster? How tough can or should we be? This may or may not include turning off the phone at night when she’s away.
