Is this compulsive behaviour that interferes with daily life related to OCD?

My mum’s OCD, which seems to centre around washing her hands is stopping her going out and socialising or inviting anyone over. I tell her just to explain to her friends and they will understand. But she thinks they won’t. The result is not social life for her which can’t be good. Any suggestions?
