Okay, so I have long-term OCD with terrible intrusive thoughts that control my life. My latest therapist said I should start writing a journal of my intrusive thoughts. I said “Will do” but I just thought this was a ridiculous idea, even immediately before I started writing. So, I wrote some thoughts down and felt “this is so stupid “immediately after. And he said I should try to include any achievements I make with OCD and the thoughts too, and also setbacks..But this isn’t really going to make living with intrusive thoughts any easier, is it? He says if I have these thoughts written, so like printed down, in a record, I’ll eventually start to have positive thoughts when I recognise the thought patterns…what therapy technique is this anyway? My thoughts are so toxic, how can writing them down help?
