What do media volunteers do?

At OCD Action, we have a wonderful team of media volunteers who publicly share their personal experiences of OCD and related conditions. Becoming a media volunteer is an excellent way to bring a human touch to news stories, challenge misconceptions, and raise awareness of the reality of living with OCD.

As a media volunteer, we may contact you to participate in various activities such as appearing on TV or taking part in interviews for magazine or newspaper articles.

We know that sharing your story can feel daunting, especially when it’s something so personal. You’ll never be asked to do anything you’re not comfortable with, and we’ll support you every step of the way. We’ll always talk things through first, and we’ll never share your name or contact details with a journalist without your permission.

Who can become a media volunteer?

Anyone affected by OCD or a related condition can become a media volunteer – whether you live with it yourself or support someone who does.

We want our media work to reflect the full range of experiences within the OCD community. We especially welcome people whose voices are underrepresented or who face additional barriers when it comes to getting support.
