I hate my intrusive thought and want to just get rid of them. But my therapist says to acknowledge them and let them be there. But isn’t it true that every one with ocd has intrusive thoughts? Mine are really scary ones, and I feel I must pay  attention to them, but then they become more important and real. I feel scared, and don’t see how it can get better.

When we challenge the thoughts, defy them, rather than give in to their threats, demands and blackmail, they become stronger for a short time, but then fade away… Our minds becme free to think about positive and more pleasant things, and peace returns to us. It’s holding onto, and persevering with that defiance, that takes a lot of initial effort… But it most certainly can be done… Honest!
