Hi Treatment for OCD can be very effective.  I eased my hoarding by only keeping the best I could get of things, which meant that heck of a lot got given away, or put in the appropriate recycling bin. I’m not responsible for saving everything, but I can treasure the really special stuff. Museums of the future are not reliant on us, others can take responsibility for the future collectables, people with lots of room to store and maintain. I just have a few very special items, and keep those on display, so I can admire my small collection. I avoid second hand sales, cos I don’t have enough free space to give them. I have enough stuff already.  Your GP can refer you to a CBT therapist, which is indeed a mental health professional, who can help us to target our issues, and teach us ways to combat the OCD. It can certainly be done. There are some brilliant books about CBT… The yellow paperback ‘Dummies’ books are really good.
