Hello, my son was diagnosed with OCD earlier this year. I think he's probably had it quite a long time - it may have come and gone before - but it's been particularly bad for the last 18 months.

We have been seeing a Clinical Psych. weekly since May but we're really not seeing any improvements- this last week has been the absolute worst week for him that I can remember. I don't know if it's been exacerbated by the 'homework' he was given in his last session - to say out loud the thoughts he's having, to sit with the anxiety for a while and to do the opposite of the obsession/compulsion. This week he's barely slept as he spends all night talking to himself trying to control it.

He's 16 and having such a hard time, it's heartbreaking.  He thinks he's a bad person and he has to do all these rituals as otherwise he'll go blind or deaf.

I don't really know why I'm posting this but I wondered if there were others in similar situations, or any positive stories about some form of recovery.

Thank you.

Hi, I wanted to reply as no one else had and I know the isolation and utter misery it causes. My son is also 16 and has OCD and has it at the severe end of the spectrum. Uhhhh. I don’t have a positive story as such as we are in the throes of it, but we are awaiting referral to specialist centre in London.. happy to talk

OCD is a pain in the arse. What he is going through is difficult but may help in the long run. I remember getting homework at the shrink and was very difficult. I would have been around that age too. Do you think he would find it helpful joining up to here himself and have another outlet and people with the same problems that can try and help. He can read other people's posts and see there are others in the same boat. And maybe learn some techniques that may help
