I've had OCD since childhood. I also had dermatillomania for a few years when I was young and have struggled with hoarding in the past. Just for some context. Anyway, I had some back problems a few years ago and developed this habit of clicking my shoulder over and over (it clicks in a way it's not really meant to) and it's just dawned on me that I think this might be an urge/ habit/ compulsion. Is that possible?

Sounds like it to me! I had a compulsion of nodding my hear for a few years; I looked a bit strange and gave myself headaches! Maybe reward yourself if you can go an hour without the compulsion and build from there?

@Tarra

I have OCD and click my neck, it doesn't fit my normal OCD criteria and don't think it's an obvious compulsion like blinking or nodding because at times it feels good and loosens up my neck like it would anyone and that's what aiming for (i think.) But I definitely turn it into an obsession and often do it so much it makes my neck and shoulders feel stiff and raises my anxiety, I don't know where exactly it fits in OCD, ticks etc. I have enough control over it not to do it in situations it would embarrass me.

Does your shoulder clicking raise anxiety, tension, interfere in your life at all? My neck clicking raises my anxiety, and gets me in an OCD-y mood, but I click my knuckles a little bit and it doesnt do those things. If your shoulder clicking doesn't and isn't damaging the joint or muscle maybe it isn't a problem? (Just a thought not an expert.)

I am always clicking my jaw, fingers, neck, hip, back, etc. I have a connective tissue disorder that likely makes my joints easier to click but yes I do think I might be a bit compulsive about it. So yeah, maybe!
