Intrusive images

Hi everyone
I have been dealing with an intrusive image of doing something inappropriate with a family member for quite a while now.
I know it's the wrong thing to do but I asked the family member if I had done this thing. They were really nice about it and assured me all was well.
The thing is the image is so vivid it feels like a memory. How do i tell the difference between an image and a memory? And how is it that people without OCD who presumably have weird images aswell can say it was just a thought. I mean if I were to ask a friend if they had ever had an image of doing something inappropriate with, for example a collegue they would pribably

Sorry pressed wrong button.
They would probably say yes. Then if I asked how do you know you didn't actually do it? They would say 'I just know'.
Why do us OCD'ers doubt ourselves so much?

Everyone gets intrusive images, everyone. Gamma waves are the only way I know of to discern real from imaginary. This gets asked almost every day.
