Hi all, hope you are all doing well?

So had a new experience this morning, my main ocd fear is contamination but I can frequently flip to different concerns, I woke up with two different unrelated ocd thoughts in my head at the same time, now usually it is only one thought that sticks and I work through it so to speak, but this morning I am battling two thoughts, anyone else ever experienced this with ocd? I have had ocd for many years but this last few weeks have been some of the worst I have experienced.

Hi John

I think that's the case with many of us, even though my main worries are harm related, I do get thoughts about insects and everytime I see a insect I have to cover my nose, It sounds silly don't you think (lol) but that's ocd for us it does not make any sense at all. I also have toilet issues where I would maybe spend a lot of time and sometimes after the toilet I get a shower but I've been able to cut down on the amount of showers I get.

Even though I don't suffer from false memories in relation to harm I do feel I'm very susceptible to suffering as the way I think it could happen in the future, lets hope I don't get false memories.

In a way the common theme with ocd is harm, when you think about it. A lot ocd sufferers who suffer from contamination might fear that they could make someone else ill. In my scenario to do with the insects it's not a harm related thought but it's more of a I feel dirty type of thought and the same goes for my toilet habbits.

It's always positive trying to understand the thoughts and I think your question is a very interesting one, if you are able to figure out the reason why a compulsion must be carried out, that's a massive step.

I have just never experienced two to three different thoughts and uncertainties at the same time before which is concerning me in case I am going back the way instead of improving

I think that's very normal. I know it tends to be very difficult when we are getting so many different thoughts but by all means it does not mean we are going backwards. (Remember that last statement we are not going backwards if we get new thoughts).

I too often have two OCD thoughts at one time, swopping intensity in fearfulness.  They are kind of linked in that the underlying theme is fear of being harmed or hurt, unless I 'do something'. My OCD is a shape shifter, it changes so I expect this now...Only way to manage them Is to work out underlying fear and face it...hard at times but anxiety does go down... I tried the ERP technique and it helped...  Al
