Is an OCD chat room possible for this website?

I am interested if this website would create or host a chat-room for OCD sufferers. It would be quicker than the private messaging or posting on the forum.

I guess I am interested in talking to other sufferers of OCD. Problem for me is that sometimes the forum is a bit slow for replies. With a chat-room in real time it would be easier and quicker to talk.

I understand that there is all a minority of abusive people or trolls out there who ruins things for everyone but the chat room could be monitored by volunteer members or senior members here. I wouldn't mind helping out.

Any thoughts about this?

Hi Grinded,

Great idea! We did actually create an instant messaging Helpline for young people last year, but that is slightly different to what you are suggesting as it was trained volunteers on the other end of the chat, so it was a Helpline function rather than peer support. I do think an IM service would be a great idea though in the future. Obviously these things take a lot of planning, but I'll certainly forward on your suggestions to our website team who are always looking for new, innovative ways to improve the site! Have you seen any other websites with similar functions that we could look at?

We also have online support groups which you may find useful, as you would get instant replies there as it's over the phone support with a group

Thanks for your reply. I know there are some OCD websites out there with communities but none of them have an online chat room kind of thing. The only one that does is the healthfulchat website.

It is a built in live chat-room. They host a number of chatrooms and forums. It is not really a website dedicated to just OCD though. Not many people use it. If an chat-room was ever going to happen here I guess the best thing to do would be to connect this chat-room to this forum if was to be used, that way random people would not just show up and it would be usable by members only.

I watched a bunch of YouTube videos on how to install chat room/s on a website. It appears there are a number of free chat widgets you can download to any website. Like this for example

But I guess you would need someone educated in software if you wanted to make a proper job of it. I just ran a Google search on "install chat room on your website" and a bunch of tutorials are available. I agree stuff like this does take planning, but just an idea I had. I have to several other members here and they also recommended it.
