As the title suggest I’m really scared we are heading for WW3. I’ve quit my job, I’ve stopped eating properly, I’ve quit gym. Everything is just caving in. I spend all day in bed reading/scanning different news websites. I can’t look forward to anything as I just think whats the use..I’m so scared. So much bad stuff is going on in the world. South China sea, US/China relations, US/Russia relations, NATO/Russia, Syria.I don’t want to be conscripted, forced to kill another men, see my family hurt.Surely we should have learnt from the first two world wars. I can’t believe this is all happening again.

Scanning news sites is a compulsion which will povide no relief. Things like quitting your job is counterproductive as it will simply leave more time to ponder the extinction of the world. Just focus on living your life and seek to enjoy life. Que será será  - what will be will be - enjoy yourself. We don't know the future.

Hi Mrknownothing

I think I remember going through a similar phase where I was thinking what is the point. This is probably not the type of thinking we should have as it can demotivate us and make us worry about the uncertainty. We can focus a lot on the uncertainty and this can lead to us not being able to move forward. I might offer a bit of reassurance which is something I probably shouldn't do. I think the probability of something major happening is very low, we can never be 100% sure but we probably can say that it is very unlikely to happen. Would that be fair to say? please disagree if you want to.

There isn't much tension in the world at all compared to the likes of the 20th century in terms of the threat of large scale war between nations. The situation with Russia is nothing more than a diplomatic squabble with the media creating rubbish to try and whip up fear and anger (like that nonsense about typhoon intercepting russian jets when that is common practice anyway).

In fact, there's an important fact to take in with that. Back in the 1910s, there were only around 53 countries in the world. Now there are near 200. Why is this you might ask? Because of democracy and self-determination. Between healthy democracies, wars tend to be virtually nonexistent. And the world has become a lot more democratic since 1989. Of course, corruption and bribery exist on a worldwide scale still, but  appreciate that the danger we face in the 21st century is not the large scale wars that you are thinking of. It's more down to global international terrorism, often caused by destabilizing areas in the middle east, and fundamentalism. Hopefully this is a problem that we can solve in the next few decades.

I don't think there are any significant threats to us, and I think your fear sounds very irrational and phobic in nature. Rejoin the Gym, find a career you enjoy, and don't overanalyze.

Thanks guys/gals!

I really struggle with the 'what if' questions. My GP has referred me to a psychiatrist now.
