OCD Action investigates IAPT services

In response to the promises made in our Call to Action document which was published in January 2015, our research volunteers have been working hard at OCD Action to investigate ways in which you can access the best quality treatment and care.

Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) quarterly figures of recovery rates for OCD have been analysed, and we are in the process of enquiring into the standards of the services whose results fell into the top three and bottom three thresholds. We have also examined which IAPT services have a self-referral option, to make getting into the right treatment quicker and easier for you by cutting out the middle-man.

The results from our IAPT analysis of Quarter 2 are as follows:

Top 3 OCD Recovery Rates according to IAPT quarterly figures:

  1. iCope IAPT (NHS Islington CCG) 100% Recovery Rate for OCD (Depressive Episode 44.4 %, Recurrent depressive disorder 35.3%, Phobic anxiety disorders 31.3%, Other anxiety disorders 31.6%)
  2. Kaleidoscope IAPT (NHS Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG) 100% Recovery Rate for OCD (Depressive Episode 44.4 %, other anxiety disorders 32.5%)
  3. Conifers IAPT (NHS Surrey Downs CCG) 100% Recovery Rate for OCD (Depressive Episode 36.4 %, Recurrent depressive disorder 36%, Phobic anxiety disorders 46.4%, Other anxiety disorders 50.8%)

Bottom 3 Recovery Rates according to IAPT quarterly figures:

  1. Outlook Southwest IAPT (NHS Kernow CCG) 24% Recovery Rate for OCD (Depressive Episode 42.8 %, Recurrent depressive disorder 27.5%, Phobic anxiety disorders 43.3%, Other anxiety disorders 40.6%)
  2. 2gether IAPT (NHS Gloucestershire CCG) 26.3% Recovery Rate for OCD (Depressive Episode 34.8%, Other anxiety disorders 33.9%)
  3. Minds Matter (Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust) 32.1% Recovery Rate for OCD (Depressive Episode 36.4 %, Recurrent depressive disorder 43.8%, Phobic anxiety disorders 43.9%, Other anxiety disorders 46.5%)

Another project which we have started is the formation of an OCD and BDD Specialist Treatment Directory, which will be available on our website. We are currently gathering as much information as possible on treatment centres and who claim to have a specialist OCD or BDD service, in order to provide you with as many options as possible when choosing where to undergo your treatment.

For this, we need your help! If you have experienced any treatment for OCD in the following treatment centres, we would be very grateful if you could send a short, honest review of your experience (whether good or not so good!) to Hannah at the address info@ocdaction.org.uk:
