The North Remembers

What a weekend we’ve had for fundraising!

As some of you may know, Sunday 11th September was the day of the hallowed Great North Run. The largest half-marathon in the world, the event broke records this year for featuring more people from different countries than any running event in history.

But more importantly, three of the people running in this event were doing so for OCD Action!

Dan Ellingworth, Debbie Robinson and Sam Ormrod were our three champions on the day. All three of them managed to complete the run and raise (including Gift Aid) £488.88, £262.50 and £198.75 respectively. Between the three of them that’s a stunning £950.13 which will go towards helping people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. And we hear that there’s even more coming that they’ve managed to raise offline!

All three of the runners have personal connections to OCD. Sam lives with the disorder himself, while Debbie runs the Central Manchester Parents OCD Support Group, which Dan also belongs to. So the fact that they’ve done such an excellent job of raising donations to help people with the disorder means a lot.

Here are Debbie and Dan during the event (left) and Sam with his OCD Action t-shirt:

Don’t forget that the fearsome trio still have their JustGiving pages open where you can still donate! Check out Sam, Dan and Debbie’s pages and show them how valued their efforts are.

That’s not all, though! On Saturday 10th September, Emma Martin took part in the Tough Mudder North West in Cheshire. She completed the tough as nails obstacle course (which you may remember from our many fundraisers who have taken part in it), and managed to raise a whopping £152.50 for OCD Action while doing so. Check out Emma’s JustGiving page and help her raise even more!

And in yet another huge piece of news, Tom Clancy finally completed his three-month mega-walk from John O’Groats to Land’s End on Saturday. We’re still in disbelief at the sheer scale of Tom’s achievement, and can’t wait to let you know about all of the amazing adventures he got up to in the second half of his journey later this week. For now, check out this photo of him celebrating the end of his journey, and visit his Virgin Money page where he’s managed to raise (wait for it!) £2105.25 towards OCD Action and two other mental health charities.

So congratulations to Debbie, Sam, Dan, Emma and Tom, and thank you all so much for everything you’ve done for us. It’s been an excellent weekend for raising funds, and we hope to have many more to come!
